Big Idea – God is the loving King the boss of everything who made the world by His word.

Genesis 1 & 2

Lesson Background

This unit of work is an overview of the Old Testament from creation in Genesis 1 up to God’s promise to King David in 2 Samuel 7.  The theme for the unit is: God always keeps His Promises.

Genesis 1:1-3a says, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said….’

These verses tell us 4 things: 1. God created the heavens and earth. 2. The was no heavens and earth before he creation only darkness and emptiness. 3. The Spirit of God was hovering, therefore God existed before creation. He is eternal. There is no beginning or end to God. 4. God created the heavens and earth by His word. He spoke and the world came to be. In summary God is the eternal King who made everything by His word.
