Term 2 – Week 6

Big Idea – Jesus died to fix the problem of sin, to fix the friendship between us and God.

Luke 22-23

Lesson Background

We moved straight Jesus’ birth to his arrest and crucifixion. Jesus came to earth as a baby to fix the problem of sin and he achieves this through his death and resurrection. Jesus fixes the problem of sin by dying for us and instead of us to take the punishment we deserve, and to make peace with God. Therefore, Jesus fixes the friendship between us and God through his death of the cross. The aim is to teach the kids that God had a plan and that plan was fulfilled in Jesus – his birth, death and resurrection.

Outcomes

Children will understand that Jesus died to fix the friendship between us and God and if we love God, follow Jesus and listen to his Word, then we can be friends with God.

Note: Next week when you teach the resurrection, talk about faith and the fact that only those who have faith in Jesus can be friends with God. Faith = listening to God’s word & following Jesus.
