Term 1 – Week 8
Big Idea – God used Joshua to lead the people into the promised land and the ark reminded them God was always with them
Joshua 3
Lesson Background
After the dramatic flight from Egypt, the Israelites expected to go straight to the land that God had promised Abraham. Instead, due to their own rebellion, they wandered the desert for forty years. Joshua was appointed to assist Moses and would eventually lead the Israelites into the promised land. At times that must have wondered if they would ever see the promised land and doubted God. Yet despite their faithlessness, God was faithful and remained with his people all the time, supplying them with all they need. Joshua finally led them into the land but they were scared by the Canaanites – large in size and strength – who occupied the land. They needed God’s reassurance that he would always be with them that he did in a spectacular way.
