Term 1 – Week 3
Big Idea – God used Joseph to keep his promises to Abraham
Genesis 35, 45
Lesson Background
This lesson continues to explore how God’s plan of salvation unfolded. It highlights the roles of Joseph, great-grandson to Abraham. He plays a key role of leadership in God’s plan. The favourite son of 12 brothers, he was resented by his elder brothers. Joseph excitedly shared prophetic dreams of ruling over them and soon was thought of as arrogant and egotistic. But before these plans were fulfilled, Joseph’s life took many unexpected turns. Sold into slavery by his brothers, he experiences great hardship in Egypt. Later he experienced great privilege, obtaining the responsibility of second in command to Pharaoh. This role led to the preservation of Joseph’s family during famine.
