Ministry to the Elderly
The average age of our various congregations is less than 35 but we are attempting to make sure our church is welcoming to people of all ages. This work is in its early stages, but there are three main areas at present:
Senior Citizen’s Teas
We recently held a Christmas Tea and Carols at the Factory. The event went well and we are looking to organise similar ventures.
Supporting older people in our community
If you are aware of any way in which we can help older people in our local community, please let us know. We are particularly concerned to help those who struggle with loneliness and would be happy to offer befriending arrangements.
Nursing homes
Once a month a group of us visit the residents of two Old People’s Homes in Raynes Park (with the kind permission of their chaplain Rev M. Blackman). We lead a short service including music, singing songs and a short gospel address. We also have a chat and get to know the residents.
In addition to these ministries we have recently made contact with the supervisor of a local block of Sheltered Housing. It seems possible that we will be allowed to arrange events for the residents in one of their communal rooms. We are considering a performance by our (ad hoc) Choir, some other musical events (perhaps involving some of our youngsters playing instruments), perhaps a book club, charity knitting, or indeed whatever proves to be of interest. We would welcome ideas and support from other members of our congregation.
For more information for any of these events please contact us here.
