Giving to Dundonald Church
At Dundonald Church, although we do not operate a formal system of church membership, we encourage those who come regularly to our church services to become partners with us in our gospel ministries. Partnership is a biblical concept which will lead us to committing to our church family in a number ways, for example by, attending regularly on Sundays, being part of a mid-week small group, sharing gifts by serving in a particular way (perhaps as a musician, making coffee, helping with toddler groups, etc) and by financially supporting the church to enable its continued growth and its support of other gospel ministries in this country and overseas.
If you have decided that you would like to give to Dundonald, then please see the giving options below. If you would like further information, then please see “What financial needs does the church have?” below.
How can I make my donations?
You can support the church in the following ways:
Regular Standing Order
The easiest (for you) and most helpful (for us) way to give to Dundonald is to set up a standing order with your bank. All you need to do is decide how much to donate to the church each month, set up the arrangement with your bank and then each month your bank will automatically make your gift in accordance with your instructions. It therefore saves you time, means that you don’t forget when life is too busy and it helps us as we put together our budgets. You can quickly set up a standing order using your online or telephone banking. You will need to use this information:
- Recipient (or beneficiary) account name: Dundonald Church
- Sort code: 40-52-40
- Account no. 00082965 (Charities Aid Foundation Bank Ltd).
- If you are able to enter a reference, please use your surname.
Alternatively, you can complete one of our standing order forms and we will forward it to your bank on your behalf. Please click here to download a form and ensure that you tick the gift aid declaration box if you are a UK taxpayer to enable us to increase the value of your gift by reclaiming the basic rate tax on your gifts from HM Revenue & Customs.

What financial needs does the church have?
Dundonald Church does not receive any funding from the Church of England, the local council, the lottery or from any other organisation. Instead, Dundonald Church is funded though a charitable trust called The Dundonald Church Charitable Trust (registered charity no. 1089323) and is fully reliant on donations made by members of the church family. Therefore, we encourage all those who consider themselves members of the church family to become partners with us and to support the Dundonald ministries financially.
By God’s grace and the sacrificial financial giving of many, the Dundonald Church Charitable Trust has been expanded over recent years and currently provides finance and staff for the following churches known collectively as the “Co-mission South churches”: Dundonald Church, Fairfield Church, Christ Church Kingston, Christ Church Balham, Christ Church Earlsfield and Grace Church Worcester Park. The Trust’s money is spent across a wide range of ministries in ways and amounts which are monitored and controlled by the Treasurer, the Finance Committee and the Co-mission Partnership (a group of senior staff and lay elders representing each congregation). This constant review, together with the publication of accounts each year and the scrutiny of the Charity Commission, help us to ensure that we do our best to honour God through our use of resources.
As the pie-chart below shows, as well as devoting large sums of money to our own ministries, we delight in giving generously to external gospel ministries (see “Inter/national” label on chart). In 2009-10, our churches gave almost £200,000 to our mission partners both in this country and overseas.
Giving: a biblical perspective
“Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” 2 Corinthians 9 verse 7
One of the most concentrated passages in the Bible on the subject of giving is in Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians, chapters 8 and 9. It is worth taking the time to study these verses before coming to any decisions about your giving (2 Corinthians 8-9). Here are some key points to pray through:
God wants us to give...
- Sacrificially (8:1-2) accepting the personal cost
- Generously (8:3-7) as much as we are able for the salvation of others
- Gratefully (8:8-9) for Christ, though rich, became poor that we might be (spiritually) rich
- Realistically (8:10-12) according to our means
- Equally (8:13-15) giving of our plenty to help supply what others lack
- Properly (8:16-24) ensuring that our management of money is beyond reproach
- Actually (9:1-5) to ensure that our practice matches our claims and promises
- Freely (9:6-7) not reluctantly but cheerfully
- Confidently (9:8-11) knowing that God will always supply our needs
- Encouragingly (9:12-17) so that others give praise to God for what he is doing in us
So, please get involved! Please...
- Think - take some time out to consider your own finances
- Pray - ask God for wisdom and a generous heart and for His help in deciding how to best support His church with the money He has entrusted to you.
- Act - decide on an amount to give and make your gift. We encourage everybody to get involved at whatever level they canand in many ways the amount is less important than the actual participation in giving.
Frequently asked questions
-
How much should I give?
The Old Testament required God’s people to give 10% of their income and most churches around the world would expect something like that level of commitment. Yet the New Testament doesn’t impose any law - it is matter of freedom - we can give less or more as an expression of our gratitude to God (although we are, materially speaking, very well-off compared with the rest of the country and the world).
-
What form of giving is most helpful for the church?
If at all possible, we encourage people to set up a monthly standing order with their banks. Knowing that we will then have this regular income helps us to budget for the coming year.
Details of how to set up a standing order can be found at the top of this page.
-
What if I set up a standing order and my circumstances change?
You can change or cancel a standing order at any time. Therefore, if you receive a pay increase or a bonus, you can increase your standing order using your online banking or by writing to your bank. Likewise, if you face redundancy or a period of reduced income, you can cancel your standing order or reduce your monthly donations. If you can let the Treasurer know about any changes, that will help him keep track of your giving and keep his budgeting in order.
-
How often should I review my giving?
Most Christians will want to increase their giving each year if that is possible. You will probably find it helpful to review your giving a couple of times a year (perhaps in April and in October) to check whether it is sustainable and whether it could be increased.
-
What if I am a tax-payer?
If you are a UK tax-payer, then it is vital that you complete a Gift Aid declaration and return it to the treasurer. Once you have done so, then every time you make a gift to the church, we will be able to increase the value of your gift by claiming back income tax from HM Revenue and Customs. For example, if you give the church a gift of £1,000 together with a gift aid declaration, we will also be able to claim back £282 from HM revenue and Customs. Therefore, the cost to you will only be £1,000, but because of the tax back, its value to us will be £1,282! These tax refunds form an important part of the church’s annual income and so please make sure that the church doesn’t miss out! If you are a higher rate tax payer, then please note that we can only claim back the basic rate portion of tax. Therefore, when you complete your annual tax return, you may be able to reclaim the higher rate portion of tax from HMRC so that the church benefits and you benefit under the Gift Aid scheme.
We can only benefit from the Gift Aid scheme if you complete a declaration and so please download a Giving Form now, print the form, tick the box, complete your details and return it to us.
